Both Pat and Jack had no luck in finding suitable partners in their hometown. But Pat set a goal of finding love by Christmas 2002. She tried the local bingo halls and OAP clubs, but she couldn't find anyone she really liked.

In the meantime, she bought a computer so she could email friends abroad. Within days of surfing the Internet she came across www.1to1.uk.com. After reading some of the dating profiles, she decided to try it.

Before the end of the week she received several replies. One, from a person called Jack, seemed very cheeky and funny. She liked his sense of humour so replied to him straight away. After two weeks of exchanging emails they decided to meet.

The met at a local cinema and had a great time together. Jack gave Pat a lift home at the end of the date. To his amazement he found that Pat lived at the bottom of his road!

So it wasn't too before the became an inseparable couple! And Pat had achieved her goal of finding love by Christmas!

Kevin had numerous failed relationships and began to feel depressed at finding a compatible partner. One day while surfing the net he came across www.worlddatingclub.com. He thought he'd "try it for laugh" and not really take it seriously. After spending a few minutes searching the site he spotted a profile of someone called Linda and was 'intrigued' as he says.

After a few minutes thinking about it, he emailed Linda with some brief details about himself. To his surprise he got a reply with a few hours. Over the next week or so the swapped many emails about things they liked and what they didn't like as well. Kevin was surprised at how like-minded they both were. After more emails they exchanged phone numbers.

The first time they spoke was 'amazing' as Kevin calls it. The excitement and thrill was overwhelming he says. They talked for hours and hours.

Their first date soon followed and was in the capital city of England, London. Interestingly, they hadn't swapped pictures because neither had a scanner or digital camera or access to one so they had to rely on their own personal descriptions, which added to the excitement.

When they finally met they were very nervous. As Kevin says, "we were so shocked at seeing each other, we just didn't know what to say". But the initial shock wore off and they were soon talking and joking with each other. They spent the whole day wondering around London. At the end of the date they both kissed and hugged, and Kevin for the first time in many years felt that he had found not just a partner but a soul mate as well.

Within six months Kevin had proposed to Linda and she willingly accepted. And as Kevin says, "the rest is history"!

As Kevin points out, if wasn't for the dating web site, the likelihood of them meeting would of been very, very small!

After Gary's wife died he thought his life was over with very little to look forward to. Year after year he felt more lonely. During 2001/2002 a friend suggested he try searching dating sites on the internet to find some female friends. He was reluctant but curious.

After a few weeks Gary was in contact with two women from www.matchdating.com. Within months he had developed a deep friendship with both women. But one in particular, Kate (nicknamed Malcolm), seemed very keen on him and he enjoyed every moment he spent with her. So it wasn't too long before they both became couple.

Now, as Gary will be the first to admit, his old sparkle is somewhat back, and he looks forward to every day! He believes he would not be as happy as he is today if it wasn't for the dating services available on the Internet!

Amanda had much doubt about using online dating services, and a lack of trust in men following her difficult divorce, so there was no way she expected to find love on the Net!

But she thought to herself it was worth a try, and in particular she chose www.venusdating.com to see if she could find anyone remotely similar to her. Initially, it was a bit of fun and she thought why not!

Within a few days Amanda had sent out 3 emails to other dating members who she thought she was compatible with. She received replies to all of them. However, one in particular from someone called Alan seemed so genuine. Within a few more days they had swapped over 10 emails - some quite long. This soon led to phone calls - they were calling each once or twice per day sharing their daily gossip.

Eventually they agreed to meet. Although they seemed an unlikely couple, with Alan being six foot tall and Amanda five foot, once they met there was no separating them even though the distance between them was hundreds of miles - Alan lived in North Wales while Amanda was from Scotland.

They soon began meeting during the week and weekends and it wasn't too long before they felt themselves falling in love with plans to live together in the near future!

This came all after Amanda's difficult divorce and skepticism of internet dating dating web-sites!

I would use Google to search for religious sites. I know for a fact there's Christian and Jewish sites, and probably many others too.

Interesting question. I think in time this is exactly what will happen: members will be matched more specifically and accurately by an AI - artificial intelligence based - system. I've been in your position many times.
